Emulsify cleanser by rubbing between hands; friction and heat will melt the balm. Massage directly onto dry skin (even eye area) in gentle, circular motions. This is a great makeup remover. I have used this on stubborn, waterproof mascara and it takes it off easily, without any rubbing. I always make sure to have a couple extra of these in my stash.
